About the Norwegian Citizenship Test

Test format

Both tests are computer-based multiple-choice exams taken at approved test centres across Norway. Each question has exactly three answer options. You have 60 minutes to complete the test.

Available languages

The samfunnskunnskapsprøve can be taken in 23 languages. The statsborgerprøve must be taken in Norwegian (Bokmål or Nynorsk).

Test costs

The test fee varies by municipality but is typically between 500 and 1300 NOK. You must pay each time you take the test, including retakes. Some municipalities may offer reduced fees for certain groups.

What to bring

• Valid photo identification (passport, national ID card, or Norwegian driver’s licence)
• Your test confirmation or registration number
• Nothing else — phones, notes, bags, and dictionaries are not allowed in the test room
